How to create a Free Email Account with Your Domain name

Having your domain name in your email address looks much more professional than using a free email client service like yahoo or hotmail. It tells clients that you are a legitimate business, and it also provides an email account you can dedicate specifically for that business.

With Google Apps, you can have up to 10 free email addresses using your domain. Google Apps is a collaborative tool that gives you one central location to manage your email accounts, Google Docs, Google Sites, and calendar for your business.

Setting it up is not too difficult if you follow these steps. You will need your domain name to start. If you don’t have one, you can purchase one through GoDaddy or Namecheap.

Here a few simple steps to create a free email with your domain name using Google apps.

The first thing you want to do is go to Google Apps (http://www.google.com/apps/). Click “Learn More” and then “Get Started.”

Enter you domain and all the relevant organization information. Once you get through this step, you have to verify your domain. You can do this by adding code to your site or changing the DNS record and then clicking “verify.”

The next step is to activate your email. This is where you will need to go to your hosting site and change the “MX” settings. Typically, this is under “DNS Management,” but Google will provide instructions for various hosting sites.

After you set up your hosting site information to direct to Google servers, from the main dashboard of Google Apps, activate your email.

You should then be able to send and receive emails using this address. Test it out and see if it works.

Once you are in Google Apps, there are other features you can use including the calendar and Docs applications mentioned above along with a global contacts list. You can also create file sharing with workgroup-level permissions to share documents with other email address users in your domain.

This is just an overview of the steps you need to take to set up free custom email accounts using your domain. Google Apps provides instructions that are easy to follow and get you setup to have your own business communication system.
