Alternative, Kick-Ass Video Citation Opportunities

Local SEO | 30 Nov 2012

video share sites citation opportunities
You, like I, spend a great deal of time tweaking and testing, trying to figure out what is going to give your clients an edge over the competition. You realize that at some point, matching and 1 bettering your competitors, will only go so far.

The Local SEO algo hasn’t changed much in some time, and so for many of you, myself included, our approach hasn’t either. Sure we find new citation opportunities, enhance our site with schema mark up and employ a stronger organic strategy, but what else are you doing?

Which of you are creating videos? Uploading them to Youtube, and optimizing with NAP, keyword rich descriptions, keywords, Geotagging, etc? Which of you is also uploading to Vimeo, Metacafe, and Veoh? These are all authoritative properties.

I have always considered videos to be a meat and potatoes item on my local SEO menu. Here are a few of my go to sources, and some details that will help you make your pick:

Web Property Geotag? NAP? Link?
youtube.com Yes Yes Yes
vimeo.com No Yes Yes
clipmoon.com Yes No No
dailymotion.com Yes Yes No
metacafe.com No Yes No
flickr.com Yes Yes Yes
4shared.com No Yes No
dekhona.com No Yes No
scivee.tv No Yes Yes
zapiks.com No Yes Yes
liveleak.com No Yes Yes
disclose.tv No Yes Yes
veoh.com No Yes No

Should you want to spice things up a bit and go the extra mile you might want to consider:

  1. Earning some views – if you made your videos on Animoto, this might be tough. I would suggest Mturk or Fiverr in that case. Make sure whomever is watching the vid, watches at least 50% of it.
  2. Engagement metrics – you’ll have to score some likes, favorites, comments, etc. Again, depending on the quality of vid, you may have to go the before mentioned route.
  3. Make your video longer – I don’t mean 1 hour, but short :30 second vids don’t do as well as they used to.
  4. Build some links – seems spammy type links still work with Youtube vids, so you might want to try that if you are ranking on a budget.

Do the above, and not only will you be driving more authority with your videos, but you may also find you rank a few too.

A credit to the team at ReelSEO for putting together one of the better lists I have seen. I used theirs and others to give me the basis for my list.

Interesting points! I’ve been dabbling in videos a bit, not as much as I like but with a current focus to steer towards more organic traffic, a bit difficult for the website aspect, neverless but not for the content aspect. However, great info byte to consider to help marketing products and services for small companies. Your style of writing, caught our attention.
